Routine check-ups are vital to maintaining your smile. In a check up we evaluate your overall oral health, including checking your gums, teeth and oral environment. Regular exams provide an important backdrop for preventive care, as we are able to detect small shifts and early changes in overall health, form and function. By seeing changes over time, we can work with you to prevent tooth decay and gum disease or to help you to manage evolving issues. Early detection of dental issues will mean more effective and lasting treatments can take place.
We recommend a comprehensive check-up and clean every 6 months. During your visit, the dentist or Oral Health Therapist (OHT) will conduct a thorough examination, focusing on several key areas:
Oral Hygiene and Dietary Assessment: We will evaluate and discuss with you your current oral hygiene practices and dietary habits to identify areas for improvement.
Health of Teeth and Soft Tissues: A meticulous examination of your teeth, lips, cheeks, and gums will be performed to ensure optimal health and identify changes.
Risk Evaluation for Dental Issues: We will assess your susceptibility to tooth decay and gum disease, providing tailored advice for risk reduction.
Signs of Tooth Wear: Our examination will include checking for any signs of wear on your teeth, which may indicate underlying issues.
Growth and Alignment Assessment: We will monitor the growth and alignment of your teeth and jaws to ensure proper development.
Bite Analysis: Any potential bite problems will be evaluated, allowing us to recommend appropriate interventions if necessary.
Should your check-up reveal the need for further treatment, we will provide you with a comprehensive dental treatment plan, detailing the necessary procedures and associated costs.

Our OHT team are University graduates with a special interest in treating children and young adults. Their mission is to preserve and restore your teeth, emphasising the importance of regular hygiene treatments.
Each appointment takes between 45 minutes and an hour and includes a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to assess any potential issues. This is followed by an intensive scaling, cleaning, and polishing of your teeth, ensuring that plaque and tartar buildup are effectively and comfortably removed. Hygiene therapy is a vital part of your regular dental care and maintenance, and should be undertaken at least every six months.
OHT’s are able to take x-rays, do routine check ups and perform basic treatments such as fillings and fissure seals.
Regular visits to our Oral Health Therapists are essential, particularly for individuals dealing with tartar buildup and plaque management. This can be an issue for people as they age and have dexterity issues; for young children and adults who find maintaining a healthy dental environment problematic; and for those undertaking other types of dental treatment such as orthodontic treatment or periodontal treatment and who need extra assistance in maintaining a healthy oral environment.

Endodontic treatment (also known as root canal treatment) aims to save a tooth badly damaged due to decay, disease or injury.
Symptoms of a tooth that may require this treatment include pain, sensitivity to heat or cold, tooth discolouration and soreness or swelling in the gums. The pulp of the tooth may have become severely inflamed or infected. If left untreated, severe pain and abscesses (infection at the end of the roots) can occur.
Treatment involves an opening being made through your tooth to access the pulp. Using special instruments, your dentist will remove the inflamed or infected pulp. Each root canal is cleaned, enlarged and shaped. Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial medicines are placed inside the root canal for several weeks to help stop the inflammation and infection.
At your next appointment, each canal is cleaned, dried and filled with a material called gutta percha. This protects the inside of your tooth and prevents further infection.
Your dentist may also recommend that the treated tooth be crowned to improve its strength and decrease the risk of fracturing.
In some instances, our dentists may refer you to a specialist for Endodontic treatment, however most Endodontic issues can be resolved and managed by us at Central Dental Group.

Periodontal treatment is designed to slow and manage the progression of gum disease, providing you with a greater chance of maintaining your natural teeth for life. With regular treatments and ongoing maintenance, our Dentists and Oral Health Therapists work collaboratively to support and manage your oral health. Maintaining your teeth when Perio health is an issue requires long term planning and commitment by the practitioner and the patient.
Periodontal disease is characterised by inflammation and infection of the gums, and can often be detected by seeing red and sore gums, bleeding during brushing, and bad breath. It is primarily caused by plaque—a thick, sticky film of bacteria that accumulates on the teeth. In the initial stages, this condition manifests as gingivitis, which involves inflammation of the gums. Fortunately, gingivitis can often be effectively managed through the removal of plaque and calculus, followed by thorough yet gentle cleaning practices, including regular brushing and flossing and hygiene visits.
As gum disease advances, it can develop into periodontitis, a more severe form that poses significant risks to your teeth, gums, and the bone that supports your teeth. As inflammation and infection escalate, pockets may form between the gums and teeth, leading to gum recession. Consequently, this can result in loose teeth, potential tooth loss, or the need for extraction.
Common signs of periodontal disease to watch for include:
Red, swollen, or tender gums
Painful or bleeding gums
Gums that have receded from the teeth
Persistent bad breath or an unpleasant taste in the mouth
Loose teeth, shifting teeth, or the gradual appearance of gaps

Crowns, bridges and veneers are all prosthetic applications that aim to bring teeth back to their natural beauty and to restore form and function.
Patients look to these treatments to replace missing, worn down or unattractive teeth, or to replace non-functioning or non viable teeth. There are a number of ways that tooth form, function and fit can be improved. The aim is to replace your existing tooth / teeth with something which is both natural looking and aesthetically pleasing.
We work with a number of different laboratories and can help you design a dental outcome that suits your lifestyle and the outcome you want to achieve. .
If there is something about your teeth you think could be improved, talk to your dentist.
CrownA crown covers a damaged tooth, preserving and improving appearance, shape and alignment. Crowns are made from porcelain or ceramic materials and are crafted to match existing teeth. The crown is bonded to your existing teeth to improve form and function, and to ensure your bite retains its normal position.
Improving your bite by building up a compromised tooth also ensures that your existing teeth do not become overworn, which can create a secondary problem.
Bridge
A bridge is often used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. It is sometimes an alternative treatment to replacing teeth with dental implants. The device is attached to adjoining teeth or implants on either side.
A bridge allows you to preserve the look of your teeth and maintain your proper bite and function. Replacing missing teeth also assists in maintaining facial form and can prevent other teeth from becoming overused.
Veneer
A veneer is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the look of the tooth or to protect it.
The veneer is made of a dental composite or porcelain. Veneers can enhance the look of your teeth, which may have become discoloured or uneven over time. Talk to your dentist about how you want your smile to look, how many teeth you want to show, and what the right shade and shape might be.
All restorations are designed and handcrafted in Australia using only TGA-approved materials to ensure clinical performance and safety.

Fissures are the grooves that naturally occur on the biting surface of teeth. If the fissures are deep and narrow, toothbrush bristles cannot fit inside to clean. Trapped food attracts bacteria which eventually leads to tooth decay.
Fissure sealants are coatings that fill these fissures and protect the teeth from dental plaque and acids. Treatment is painless and non-invasive, with a coat of sealant applied to the cleaned tooth to form a physical barrier.
While an intact fissure sealant offers excellent protection against decay on the treated surface, your dentist or therapist cannot guarantee that treatment will prevent decay on all tooth surfaces.
